Exclusive interview with TOMMY a talented Bristol singer

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you have released?

Tommy aka Tommy D from Bristol U.K. Ive made beats, sung hooks and played session guitar for while.

As a solo artist I have released Roadz N Romance E.P my first solo release for free download.

A lot of independent artist’s now run their own labels. Do you think this is the way forward? Or do you hope one day to get signed to a major or another label?

Its the way forward if you have the money and time to invest in marketing. You also have to realy stand out as there are way too many peolpe out there with the same ideas. I would snap up a deal!!

Formats of music are changing all the time, but we asked you ‘CD or MP3’ which would you say is better and why?

Mp3s are a good concept but being so easy to download and copy illegally its putting the industry at risk. I think both formats should co exist but regulation need to tighten up with mp3s

Apart from the genre of music that you make what else do you listen to?

Just getting into abit of dubstep, abit of dancehall. Used to like Hardcore which is like heavy guitar music but with grove and real street influenced lyrics and a postitive message.

Is there any music that you hate and just can’t listen too?

Hate is a strong word, I aprieciate most music but not too into indie rock.

If there was a position of power that was ‘world leader’ and you was chose as the person to fill that position, what laws or things would you change and why?

The police stop and search should be illegal unless warrented.

People are saying that live shows are the way forward for acts to earn money, but then we hear its hard to get bookings? What’s your take on this?

In my experience promoters are only willing to pay good money for bigger acts so kind of a catch 22. It is also hard to get bookings. Think live shows are better for marketing opportunities for smaller acts than to make money

Who is or was the best musician in the world and why?

MJ and Quicy Jones as a team. They made the biggest selling hits that are timeless and just as big today as 28 years ago.

So what does the future hold for you?

Hopefully some opportunities to write for some big names and plenty of releases from Tommy D!

Give us all your relevant internet links!

New York Rappers SO O.D give us an exclsuive interview

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you have released?

So O.D. is substance in music. Two sides mixed together developing a unique chemistry. Two lyricists from New York, whose lives revolve around hip hop.
We have just released an all original mix tape presented by DJ Kool Kid entitled The Overdose Vol 1. D.I.V., ½ of the duo has also released a solo album presented by DJ Vlad… The Uncovered Truth.

A lot of independent artist’s now run their own labels. Do you think this is the way forward? Or do you hope one day to get signed to a major or another label?

I think its all about being in the best situation. So if we can sign with a label and it will elevate our exposure, It will only benefit us and let us focus fully on the music. Self ownership is a definite goal though.

Formats of music are changing all the time, but we asked you ‘CD or MP3’ which would you say is better and why?

Well Cds were the best things when cassettes were around, now MP3 is the next generation and they are better all around. Easier to use and share. it’s the format of the times.

Apart from the genre of music that you make what else do you listen to?

Mostly R+B, Reggae, Soul, Classic Rock. At the end of the day I don’t limit myself, good music is good music.

Is there any music that you hate and just can’t listen too?

Yeah, music with no soul and passion. Sometimes when acts are releasing records they do it to make money, instead of doing it for the love. I hate shit that’s not genuine.

If there was a position of power that was ‘world leader’ and you was chose as the person to fill that position, what laws or things would you change and why?

Its hard to say. In my mind now, I would try to focus on peaceful relations between waring nations. I would use every resource I could. Also I would support education of the youth of al countries across the world in hopes to build a world of progressive, innovative people.  But the reality of it is that power changes people and no one can say what they realy would do. On some real shit I would be focused on keeping my power and even trying to get more. Power consumes you, and there are devils on every level.

People are saying that live shows are the way forward for acts to earn money, but then we hear its hard to get bookings? What’s your take on this?

Well I think that its always been hard to get paid bookings. But there is a breaking point and every artist strives to get there. Live performance is the direct connection with the people, and it is irreplaceable.

Who is or was the best musician in the world and why?

Bob Marley. He was so complex. When someone can touch a wide variety of subjects, connect with people of all ages, races and backgrounds, and still rep for his people, it is truly priceless. Also his political references, tributes and worldly concepts are amazing.
So what does the future hold for you?

New material coming from talented London Rapper Dubbledge

At the tail end of 09, Dubbledge dropped the incredible ‘One Inch Punch’ Mix-CD, which saw the emcee bring an entire LP worth of lyrical heat over the mid-90s most loved hip-hop instrumentals. But you wanted more – the heads demanded some material over original beats, and boy, does Edge deliver.

To bridge the gap before the album proper drops (with some very big surprise guest producers), here are two bangers that will surely whet the appetite for the impending madness of his sophmore LP.

First up, ‘Choices Choices’ mixes heavy Ghosttown production that sounds like it’s been taken out of some French film-noir scene, with Edge’s trademark flow. Second to the bat – the Madlib flavoured ‘The Trilogy’ is produced by world champ DJ, beat extraordinaire, DJ for Professor Green – DJ IQ. Hosted by Asaviour, this song is an untameable fire.

The Trilogy – Produced by DJ IQ hosted by Asaviour
Choices Choices – Produced by GhosTTown
Don’t Get Involved – Produced by Formula

Directed and animated by Slim for Future Through Design

Coming from a strong musical family background, Grizzly is actually the son of Mandingo, the producer behind Sugar Minnott’s 70’s reggae classic ‘Every Little Thing’. He has worked with acts such as Killa P of Cemetery Warriors, Typah, and Big Narstie of NAA and co -crew member and number one UK rising reggae star Majah Tunder, and is considered to be one of the ‘next to blow’!

What gives Grizzly instant appeal is his talent to be diverse seeing him able to rock on different tempo’s, vibes and genres including Bashment, Grime, Rap, RnB and Pop. This was witnessed in 2009 when he released a nine-track promo entitled ‘Jus A Promo’, which saw him ride various styles of beats. So far this mixtape has been described as ‘his best work to date’ and surely really big things should arise from this release.
