Pair-A-Dyce Interview

First off we just want to say thanks for taking the time out to do this interview for us at Monsta Musik.

Thank you for having me.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you have released?

I’m Pair-A-Dyce and I was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida but now reside in the Dallas, Texas area. Over the years I’ve released about 10 mixtapes and my most recent project is my first EP titled, The Road Less Traveled.

A lot of independent artist’s now run their own labels. Do you think this is the way forward? Or do you hope one day to get signed to a major or another label?

I think if you can control as much of yourself, then that’s the best thing to do. A major label is like a credit card, if you don’t manage that situation just right, you end up losing in the long run. The best thing you can do for yourself is have a hand or say in everything you do, once you lose that, you lose out.

Formats of music are changing all the time, but we asked you ‘CD or MP3’ which would you say is better and why?

CD because it has memories attached to it. I can remember opening CDs and what I did as I listened. I’ve bought CDs online and the first listen wasn’t as memorable, but sooner or later I envision the shift will happen.

Are you releasing your music on CD or MP3 and how are you finding the different formats?

Originally I did everything digitally, but with my mixtapes Pair-A-Dyce Vol. 1 & 2, I did digital and physical and that seemed to be most successful. The EP we just released, The Road Less Traveled was done online only but I’m going to use the dual approach again going forward.

Apart from the genre of music that you make what else do you listen to?

R&B, Pop, Rock, K-Pop, Funk, Soul, and a little Alternative.

Is there any music that you hate and just can’t listen too?

I can’t say I hate any music, but I haven’t found any real Country music I can dive into yet.

So let’s talk about how people can support you. Do you have music out there people can buy?

We have the CD Punchlines & Parables that you can cop on iTunes, everything else as far as mixtapes go to and enjoy yourself. I will be doing giveaways for the next few projects so check that out.

Do you have any merchandise for sale yet, or do you do anything in the industry that you want to talk about?

I’m holding of on merchandise until there’s a demand for such, but I do engineer and mix for artists, so if you’re in Dallas hit me up. I did some engineering on Slim Thug’s Tha Thug Show.

If there was a position of power that was ‘world leader’ and you was chose as the person to fill that position, what laws or things would you change and why?

That’s tough, I would put more mandates in place to use more efficient means of energy. The technology exists to move away from oil dependency, but if it’s not mandated, what reason does anyone have to change? None. I’d also look into better ways of getting people engaged in government and reduce the cloak of what happens within the government, we need more transparency as far as the laws being put into place and why they are put in place.

People are saying that live shows are the way forward for acts to earn money, but then we hear it’s hard to get bookings? What’s your take on this?

That can be true, people may not book you because they don’t know who you are so that’s where you have to hustle and make the sale, convince people to believe in you.

Who is or was the best musician in the world and why?

That’s all a matter of opinion… I don’t know the answer to that but someone who has had a hand in just about everything related to music successfully would be Quincy Jones.

So what does the future hold for you?

A lot of music and good times. We are just getting started and there is a long journey ahead.

Once again thanks for your time. Anyone you want to shout out or anything you want to add before you go?

Shout out to Rediculus, Jon Glass, Kayser9soze, Rob Connelly and all the great people who continue to support what I do. I’m fortunate to have that support.

Okay please give us all your relevant internet links so people can connect with you. and
